Rosmead (spr. rosmīd), Hercules Robinson Lord, geb. 19. Dez. 1824 als Sohn eines Admirals, gest. 28. Okt. 1897 in London, trat 1843 in die Armee, 1846 in die Zivilverwaltung, ward 1855 Gouverneur von St. Christoph, 1859 von Hongkong, 1865 von Ceylon, 1872 von Neusüdwales, 1879 von Neuseeland und 1880 Gouverneur der Kapkolonie und Oberkommissar in Nordafrika. Er war eifrig bemüht, die Buren mit England zu versöhnen. Nachdem er 1889 nach England zurückgekehrt und 1891 zum Baronet erhoben war, wurde er 1895 wiederum als Gouverneur nach der Kapkolonie gesendet, vermochte aber, von den Plänen seines Premierministers Cecil Rhodes nicht unterrichtet, weder den Einfall Jamesons in Transvaal zu hindern, noch 1896 Chamberlains Forderungen beim Präsidenten Krüger durchzusetzen. Er wurde 1896 zum Peer ernannt und nahm 1897 seine Entlassung.
