Roma

Roma (Dea Roma), Personifikation der Stadt Rom, zuerst im 2. Jahrh. v. Chr. von kleinasiatischen Städten, als Staatsgöttin aber erst seit Errichtung des ihr und Venus von Hadrian in Rom geweihten Doppeltempels (templum Urbis) an der Via sacra (s. Tafel »Architektur IV«, Fig. 17 u. 18), von dem noch Reste erhalten sind, verehrt. R. ward meist in der Weise der Minerva, auch amazonenhaft dargestellt (auf der Vorderseite der Silbermünzen mit dem Flügelhelm, s. Abbildung).

Schöne Darstellungen sind das Wandgemälde des Palazzo Barberini in Rom und die Statue im Palast der Konservatoren. Vgl. Kenner in den Sitzungsberichten der Wiener Akademie, 1857.
