Prosecution (engl., spr. proßekjūsch'n), die Verfolgung eines Verbrechers vor Gericht, die Kriminalanklage, die gewöhnlich entweder im Weg eines indictment (s. d.) oder im Weg eines presentment geschieht. Unter letzterm versteht man die Anklage von seiten eines inquest, d. h. einer Jury, die zur Untersuchung von innerhalb ihrer Gerichtsbarkeit verübten Verbrechen zusammen getreten ist.
