Pima

Pima (Nevome), nordamerikan. Indianerstamm, am Rio Gila in Arizona und im mexikanischen Staat Sonora, zum sonorischen Zweig des uto-aztekischen Sprachstammes gehörig. Schon vor Ankunft der Europäer bewohnten sie aus Luftziegeln erbaute, bisweilen mit Ziegeln gedeckte Häuser, bewässerten ihre Felder durch ein ausgedehntes Kanalsystem und trieben verschiedene Gewerbe. Wahrscheinlich waren die P. auch die Erbauer der »casas grandes«, großartiger Ruinenstädte in ihrem Gebiet. In der Pima-Reservation in Arizona lebten 1890: 4464 P., größtenteils Katholiken.
