Pace

Pace (engl., spr. pĕß), »Schritt«, als Feldmaß = 5 engl. Fuß oder 152,4 cm. In der Turfsprache bedeutet P. soviel wie Tempo. Ein Rennen wird in schneller P. oder in langsamer P. gelaufen. Ein Pferd, das bei einem Rennen vor allen übrigen Konkurrenten ein schnelleres Tempo vom Start aus einschlägt, »macht die P.« oder »drückt auf die P.«. »Full pace«, in voller P. Ähnlich wird das Wort auch im Radfahrsport gebraucht. Pace-maker, Schrittmacher.
