Northallerton

Northallerton, Hauptstadt des Nordbezirks von Yorkshire (England), in fruchtbarer Ebene, hat eine zum Teil normannische Kirche (12. Jahrh.), eine alte Lateinschule, Gerichtshof, Brauereien, Gerbereien, Ziegeleien und (1901) 4009 Einw. Nördlich davon ward 22. Aug. 1138 die »Standartenschlacht« geschlagen, in der König David von Schottland besiegt wurde.
