Mulhall

Mulhall (spr. möll-haol), Michael G., engl. Statistiker, geb. 1836 in Dublin, gest. 12. Dez. 1900, gebildet am irischen Kollegium in Rom, wanderte 1858 nach Buenos Aires aus, wo er den »Standard«, die erste englische Tageszeitung in Südamerika, begründete, und kehrte 1878 nach Europa zurück. Seitdem widmete er sich ausschließlich statistischen Untersuchungen. 1884 wurde er Ausschußmitglied der British Association for the advancement of science. Er schrieb: »Rio Grande do Sul and its German colonies« (1873); »Europe to Paraguay and Matto Grusco« (1877); »The progress of the world since 1800« (1880); »Balance sheet of the world« (1881); »Dictionary of statistics« (1891, 4. Aufl. 1899); »History of prices since 1850« (1885); »Industries and wealth of nations« (1896); »National progress in the Queen's reign, 1837–1897« (1897). M. war auch Mitherausgeber des verdienstlichen »Handbook of the River Plate« (6.
