Methōl, das schwefelsaure Salz des Monomethylparaamidophenols CH3NH.C6H4.OH, farblose Kristalle, löslich in Wasser, reduziert Metallsalze und wird daher in der Photographie als Entwickler benutzt. Das Salz der Orthoverbindung, gemengt mit Hydrochinon, wird als Orthol (Ortol) zu gleichem Zweck benutzt.
