Lanarkshire (spr. lännarkschĭr), Grafschaft im südwestlichen Schottland, im Tal des Clyde, daher auch Clydesdale genannt, grenzt im N. an die Grafschaften Stirling, Dumbarton, Linlithgow und Edinburg, im O. an Peebles, im S. an Dumfries, im W. an Ayr und Renfrew und umfaßt 2302 qkm (41,5 QM.) mit (1901) 1,339,289 Einw. (581 auf 1 qkm). Hauptsitz der Industrie wie überhaupt die wichtigste Stadt in L. ist Glasgow, aber Lanark die Hauptstadt.
