Provinz (Mudirieh) Esna, am linken Nilufer, Dampferstation, mit sehr bedeutender Zuckerfabrik des Chedive und (1882) 6886 Einw. – A. ist das alte Hermonthis (ägypt. Per-Montu, »Haus des Gottes Mont«); der hier errichtete berühmte Tempel ist fast gänzlich zerstört und in die Fabrikanlagen verbaut.
