Jamestown (spr. dschēmstaun), 1) einziger Ort und Landungsplatz auf der brit. Insel St. Helena, am Nordrand in enger Schlucht, durch die sich die einzige Straße der Stadt hinzieht, wird durch zwei Strandsorts geschützt, ist Freihafen, Kohlenstation, Sitz des Gouverneurs und eines deutschen Konsuls und hat (1901) 5195 Einw. – 2) Stadt in der Grafschaft Chautauqua des nordamerikan. Staates New York, am Südende des Chautauquasees, besuchte Sommerfrische, hat Möbel-, Baumwoll- und Wollwarenfabriken und (1900) 22,892 Einw. – 3) Hauptort der Grafschaft Stutsman in Norddakota, am James oder Dakota River und an der Northern Pacificbahn, mit (1900) 2853 Einw. – 4) Älteste englische Siedelung an der Mündungsbucht des James River, in Virginien, 1607 von John Smith begründet, nur in dürftigen Ruinen erhalten.
