Epiphănes

Epiphănes (griech., »erlaucht, berühmt«), 1) Beiname des Antiochos IV. von Syrien (175–164 v. Chr.) und des Ptolemäos V. von Ägypten (198–181 v. Chr.).

2) Sohn des Karpokrates (s. d.) und Mitstifter der gnostischen Sekte der Karpokratianer, lebte zu Alexandria in der ersten Hälfte des 2. Jahrh. Nach seinem schon mit 17 Jahren erfolgten Tod erbauten ihm seine Anhänger einen Tempel.
