Bobbio, Kreishauptstadt in der ital. Provinz Pavia, an der Mündung des Flüßchens B. in die Trebbia, am Fuße des Monte Penice, Bischofssitz, mit einer alten Kathedrale, Gymnasium, Schwefelquelle und (1901) ca. 1800 (als Gemeinde 4848) Einw. – In der Nähe war früher eine 612 durch Columban gestiftete Abtei, berühmt durch eine reiche Manuskriptsammlung, die nun der Ambrosianischen Bibliothek in Mailand und der vatikanischen Bibliothek in Rom einverleibt ist. Der Katalog derselben zählt 700 Manuskripte aus dem 10. Jahrh. auf; aus ihr stammen auch die eine gotische Übersetzung der Paulinischen Briefe enthaltenden Palimpseste, die Angelo Mai, Niebuhr u. a. bekannt machten.
