Staphylococcus pyogenes aurĕus Rosenbach, ein Mikrokokkus, dessen runde Zellen in unregelmäßigen traubigen (daher der Name) Haufen beisammen liegen. Er bildet bei der Kultur intensiv goldgelbe Kolonien, verflüssigt Gelatine energisch und ist der häufigste Eitererreger und gewöhnlich die Ursache von Furunkeln, kann aber auch schwere, oft tödlich verlaufende septische und pyämische Erkrankungen veranlassen. Nur durch die Farbe der Kulturen verschieden und in den Eigenschaften sehr ähnlich sind S. pyogenes albus Rosenbach und S. pyogenes citreus Passet. S. Tafel »Bakterien«, Fig. 2 u. 2 a.
