Stafford, 1) altertümliche Hauptstadt (municipal borough) von Staffordshire (England), am Sow, der sich dicht bei der Stadt mit dem Trent vereinigt, hat 2 alte Kirchen, eine alte Grafschaftshalle (Shire Hall), ein neues Grafschaftshaus, ein Rathaus mit großer Markthalle, ein neues Schloß, eine Lateinschule (16. Jahrh.), Theater, Irrenhaus, Zuchthaus, große Stiefelfabriken, Gerberei, Brauereien, eine Saline und (1901) 20,895 Einw. – 2) Stadt im nordamerikan. Staate Connecticut, am Willimantiefluß, hat Baumwoll- und Wollfabriken, Mineralquellen und (1900) 4297 Einw.
