Pro rata

Pro rata (lat., d. h. pro rata parte, »verhältnismäßig«), ein Ausdruck, der gebraucht wird, wenn sich eine Forderung oder eine Verbindlichkeit beim Vorhandensein mehrerer Berechtigten oder Verpflichteten, wie dies die Regel ist, in ebenso viele einzelne Forderungen oder Verbindlichkeiten zerteilt; Gegensatz: »in solidum«, wenn einer für alle oder alle für einen berechtigt oder verpflichtet sind, also jeder das Ganze fordern kann oder zu leisten hat. Ebenso spricht man davon, daß mehrere Gläubiger p. r. ihrer jeweiligen Forderungen Zahlungen erhalten, wenn das Vermögen des Schuldners zu ihrer vollen Befriedigung nicht ausreicht und nun eine verhältnismäßige Verteilung Platz greifen muß.
