Pripet

Pripet (russ. Pripjat), rechter Nebenfluß des Dnjepr im westlichen Rußland, entspringt im Gouv. Wolynien, Kreis Wladimir, fließt durch den südlichen Teil des Gouv. Minsk, nimmt die Wasserschätze der großen, mit Urwäldern bedeckten, jetzt teilweise trocken gelegten Pinskischen Sümpfe auf, tritt in das Gouv. Kiew ein und mündet unterhalb Tschernobyl. Bei einer Länge von 615 km ist er auf 471 km schiffbar und für Verkehr und Handel von großer Bedeutung. Zwischen Kiew und Pinsk besteht regelmäßiger Dampferverkehr. Durch den Oginskischen und den Königskanal (s. d.) sind Verbindungen mit dem Niemen, bez. der Weichsel hergestellt. Unter den zahlreichen Nebenflüssen sind zu erwähnen Goryn (rechts), Jazolda (links).
