Platform (engl., spr. plättform, »Plattform, flaches Dach« etc.), in Amerika soviel wie Rednerbühne für Wahlreden (neuerdings auch wieder in England allgemein für Hustings, s. d.); danach soviel wie Parteiprogramm. Bei allen Wahlen in Amerika für die Stadtgemeinde, für das County und für das Repräsentantenhaus schreiben zuerst die Vertrauensmänner (leaders) ein Meeting der Partei aus. In diesem einigt man sich über eine bestimmte Anzahl von Männern, die eine Art Komitee des Wahlkreises bilden; die Versammlung dieser delegates heißt convention; sie berät die leitenden Grundsätze und stellt die Kandidaten auf. Das von der convention zustande gekommene Parteiprogramm heißt P. Die einflußreichste und älteste P. ist die Tammany Society (s. Tammany-Ring). Übrigens wird das Wort P. auch auf kirchliche Verhältnisse bezogen und hier für Glaubensbekenntnis, Kirchenverfassung gebraucht, z. B. Cambridge P. und Saybrook P., die 1648 in Cambridge (Massachusetts), bez. 1708 in Saybrook (Connecticut) festgelegte Kirchenverfassung der Kongregationalisten.
