Pentland, Joseph Barclay, Reisender und Naturforscher, geb. 1797 in Irland, gest. 1873 in Rom, kam 1826 nach Südamerika, bereiste bis 1828 Chile, Peru und Bolivia und machte sich besonders durch zahlreiche astronomische Ortsbestimmungen und Höhenmessungen verdient. Er schrieb: »Notices of the Bolivian Andes and southern affluents of the rivers Amazonas and Beni« (Lond. 1836).
