Mako (spr. mákō), Stadt mit geordnetem Magistrat im ungar. Komitat Csanád, am rechten Ufer der Maros, an der Szegedin-Arader Bahnlinie und den Lokalbahnen M.-Hódmezö-Vásárhely und M.-Nagy-Szent-Miklós, hat ein Palais des in Temesvár residierenden Csanáder römisch-kath. Bischofs, Getreide-, Hanf-, Gemüse-, Obst- und Weinbau, 4 Dampfmühlen, eine Ziegelei, Fabrikation von landwirtschaftlichen Maschinen, lebhaften Handel (namentlich Zwiebeln, Pfirsiche und Trauben) und (1901) 33,722 magyarische (reformierte und römisch-kath.) Einwohner. M. ist Sitz des Komitats und eines Gerichtshofes und hat ein Obergymnasium, ein Komitatsspital, ein neues Theater und ein Kossuthdenkmal (1905).
