Majōr

Majōr (span. mayor), früher Oberstwachtmeister, in den meisten Heeren der unterste Stabsoffiziers grad (vgl. Offizier), meist Bataillonskommandeur etc. In Frankreich ist M. ein Verwaltungsoffizier, der Bataillons-te. Kommandeur heißt commandant; m. général, s. General. Rußland hat den Grad nicht.
