Lugansk

Lugansk, Kreisstadt des Kreises Slawjanoserbsk im russ. Gouv. Jekaterinoslaw, an der Lugan, einem Nebenfluß des nördlichen Donez, und an der Katharinenbahn, hat 4 Kirchen und (1900) 34,175 Einw. Die 1795 hier angelegte staatliche Eisengießerei hatte nur kurzen Bestand. Das Aufblühen des Ortes datiert erst seit etwa 1890, als sich der südrussische Kohlenbergbau und die Hüttenindustrie rasch zu heben begannen. Jetzt hat L. mehrere Fabriken, darunter die große Hartmannsche Maschinenfabrik, sowie auch ansehnlichen Handel. L. ist Sitz der Zentral-Bergwerksdistriktsverwaltung für den westlichen Teil des Donezkischen Steinkohlenbeckens.
