Lionville

Lionville (spr. liuwil'), Joseph, Mathematiker, geb. 24. März 1809 in St.-Omer (Pas-de-Calais), gest. 8. Sept. 1882 in Paris, ward 1833 Professor an der Polytechnischen Schule und 1839 am College de France in Paris, außerdem Mitglied des Längenbureaus. Er arbeitete über Analysis, Funktionentheorie, Zahlentheorie, Mechanik und Wärmetheorie etc. Er gab Galois' Werke, Monges »Application de l'analyse à la géométrie« u.a. und seit 1836 das »Journal de mathématiques pures et appliquées« heraus.
