Lee (Leeseite), die vom Wind abgewendete Seite des Schiffes, im Gegensatz zu der Luvseite, d.h. der vom Winde getroffenen Seite. Gegenstände, die sich unter dem Wind befinden, liegen »in L.« oder »leewärts«. Unter Leeküste versteht man aber eine solche, auf die der Wind zuweht; Ausnahmen machen nur kleinere Inseln, deren »Leeküsten« wie bei Schiffen dem Winde abgewendet sind. Vgl. Legerwall. Leesegel werden auf der Luvseite ausgebracht (s. Takelung).
