Keppel, 1) Sir Henry, brit. Admiral, geb. 14. Juni 1809 als siebenter Sohn des vierten Grafen von Albemarle, gest. 17. Jan. 1904, trat 1822 in die Marine und wurde 1837 Kapitän. Nachdem er sich im chinesischen Kriege von 1842 hervorgetan hatte, trug er im Ostindischen Archipel zur Ausrottung des Piratenwesens bei. 1855 kommandierte er das britische Geschwader vor Sebastopol, 1856 als Konteradmiral ein Geschwader im Kriege gegen China, 1860 bis 1867 war er in den afrikanischen, dann in den ostasiatischen Gewässern stationiert. Er wurde 1864 Vizeadmiral, 1869 Admiral, 1877 Admiral der Flotte und trat 1879 in den Ruhestand. Er schrieb: »Expedition to Borneo« (Lond. 1847, 2 Bde.); »Visit to the Indian Archipelago« (das. 1853, 2 Bde.); »Voyage of the Miranda. Reminiscences« (1898) und seine Selbstbiographie: »A sailor's life under four sovereigns« (1899, 3 Bde.).
