Jugum

Jugum (lat., »Joch«), bei den Römern das an der Wagendeichsel befestigte Querholz, an dem der Nacken der Zugtiere befestigt wurde, dann ein Querbalken überhaupt, z. B. bei der Wage. Als größte Schmach galt es für ein besiegtes Heer, durch ein von zwei senkrechten und einer darüber gelegten Lanze gebildetes J. geschickt zu werden.
