Holmboe

Holmboe, Christopher Andreas, norweg. Orientalist, geb. 19. März 1796 im Kirchspiel Wang in Norwegen, gest. 2. April 1882, studierte Theologie und orientalische Sprachen in Christiania und Paris und wurde 1825 Professor der orientalischen Sprachen an der Universität Christiania. Seine literarische Tätigkeit erstreckte sich auf biblische Wissenschaft, Archäologie, Numismatik, vergleichende Sprachwissenschaft und öffentlichen Unterricht. Wir nennen als Hauptwerke: »Bibelsk Geographie« (Christiania 1828, Auszug 1833); »Descriptio ornamentorum aureorum et nummorum VIII. et IX. saec. in diœcesi Norvegiae« (neue Ausg., das. 1854); »Norske Universitets-og Skole-Annaler« (das. 1837–40, 3 Bde.); »Das än est e Münzwesen Norwegens« (Berl. 1846); »Det norske Sprogs väsentligste Ordforraad etc.« (Wien 1852) und »Bibelsk Real-Ord!mg« (1868).
