Hátszeg (spr. hātßeg), Stadt mit geordnetem Magistrat im ungar. Komitat Hunyad (Siebenbürgen), an der Staatsbahnlinie Piski-Petrozsény, liegt 314 m ü. M. in dem wegen seiner malerischen Schönheit berühmten Hátszeger Tal und hat ein Bezirksgericht, lebhafte Viehmärkte und (1901) 2367 meist rumänische (griechisch-oriental.) Einwohner. In der Umgebung werden viele römische Altertümer gefunden.
