Goode

Goode (spr. gudd), George Brown, Ichthyolog, geb. 13. Febr. 1851 in New Albany (Indiana), gest. 1896, erhielt 1871 eine Stellung am Museum des Wesleyan College und 1873 an der Smithsonian Institution, wo er seit 1874 die Abteilung für Fischerei leitete. Bei der Organisation des Nationalmuseums wurde er Direktorialassistent; 1880 ging er als Kommissar der Vereinigten Staaten zur Fischereiausstellung nach Berlin und 1883 nach London. 1887 wurde er Staatskommissar für die Fischerei in den Vereinigten Staaten. Er schrieb. »Catalogue of the fishes of the Bermudas« (1876); »Game fishes of the United States« (1879); »American fisheries: a history of the Menhaden« (1880); »Materials for a history of the american Mackerel fishery« (1882); »Materials for a history of the Sword-fishes« (1882); »The natural history of the Bermuda Islands« (1882); »A review of the fishing industries of the United States« (1883); »The fisheries of the United States« (1884); »American fishes« (1888, neue vermehrte Ausg. von Gill, 1903); »Origin of the national scientific and educational institutions of the United States« (1890); »Smithsonian Institution, 1846–1896« (1896).
