Formation

Formation (lat., Formierung), Bildung, Gestaltung. Im militärischen Sinne: 1) das organische Gefüge einer Truppe oder eines Truppenteils, Kriegs- und Friedensformation, z. B. einer Feldbatterie, eines Armeekorps; in der Friedensformation eines Armeekorps werden die Waffengattungen, um Ausbildung zu erleichtern, in größern Verbänden zusammengehalten; für die Kriegsformation sind nur taktische Gesichtspunkte (der Verwendung der Truppenkörper) maßgebend, daher engere Verbindung der Waffen; Neuformationen werden erst bei planmäßiger Mobilmachung aufgestellt; besondere Formationen, z. B. im Manöver eine Telegraphenabteilung; 2) die taktische Gestaltung, z. B. Marsch-, Versammlungs-, Bewegungs- und Gefechtsformationen (s.d.); Formationsänderung, Übergang aus einer Ordnung in die andre. Über Geologische Formationen s.d.
