Ferro, Scipione dal

Ferro, Scipione dal, Mathematiker, 1496–1526 Professor der Arithmetik und Geometrie in Bologna, ist der erste Entdecker der Auflösung der Gleichungen dritten Grades. Da F. seine Auflösung nicht öffentlich bekannt machte, so wurde sie später von Tartaglia (s.d.) vollständig wiedergefunden, aber auch dieser wurde durch Cardano (s.d.), dem er sie mitgeteilt hatte, um die Ehre der ersten Veröffentlichung gebracht, und daher heißt die Auflösung noch heutzutage die Cardanische Formel (s.
