Du Fail

Du Fail (spr. dü fāj), Noël, Herr von la Hérissaye, franz. Schriftsteller, geb. um 1520 in Rennes, gest. 1591, war erst Richter, dann Parlamentsrat in seiner Vaterstadt. Außer den »Propos rustiques«, die er unter dem Anagramm Léon Ladulfi 1547 veröffentlichte (hrsg. von de La Borderie, Par. 1878), ist sein beliebtestes, noch jetzt gelesenes Werk die »Baliverneries, ou Contes nouveaux d'Eutrapel«, lebenswahre Schilderungen aus dem Dorfleben in der Bretagne (hrsg. von Assézat, Par. 1874, 2 Bde.; von Jouaust, das. 1875; von Courbet, das. 1894–95, 2 Bde.).
