Cracow, Georg, Jurist und Staatsmann, geb. 7. Nov. 1525 in Stettin, gest. 16.März 1575, ward 1547 Professor der Mathematik und griechischen Sprache in Greifswald, siedelte 1549 nach Wittenberg über, widmete sich dem juristischen Studium, ward 1554 Professor des römischen Rechts in Wittenberg, war seit 1557 der vertraute Rat des Kurfürsten August und wiederholt Gesandter auf Reichstagen. 1565 zum Kammerrat ernannt, nahm C. Anteil an der kursächsischen Konstitutionengesetzgebung. Mit Melanchthon eng befreundet, wurde er 1574 in den Sturz der philippistischen Partei verwickelt, verhaftet, sogar gefoltert und starb im Gefängnis der Leipziger Pleißenburg.
