Courtmans, Joanna Desideria, geborne Berchmans, fläm. Schriftstellerin, geb. 6. Sept. 1811 in Ouedegem (Ostflandern), gest. 22. Sept. 1890 in Maldegem, verheiratete sich 1836 mit dem Lehrer Jean Baptiste C. zu Lier, nach dessen Tod (1856) sie als Vorsteherin eines Erziehungsinstituts in Maldegem wirkte. Anfangs schrieb sie Schauspiele und Gedichte, später zahlreiche flämische Romane und Erzählungen (»Het geschenk van den jager«, womit sie 1864 den Preis für flämische Literatur errang; »De bloem van Cleyt«; »Griselda«; »De hut van tante Clara« u. a.), die gesammelt in 22 Bänden erschienen.
