Coney Island

Coney Island (spr. konĭ ailänd, »Kanincheninsel«), kleine, durch einen schmalen Meeresarm von der Hauptinsel getrennte Düneninsel im Südwesten von Long Island (s. Stadtplan »New York«), die den sommerlichen Hauptbelustigungsplatz für die Bevölkerung des nahen New York bildet, mit großen Seebädern, Parkanlagen, Hotels, Musikhallen, Schaustellungen etc., mit New York durch mehrere Eisenbahnen und elektrische Bahnen ebenso wie durch Dampfer verbunden und jährlich von mehr als 10 Mill. Menschen besucht. West Brighton, Brighton Beach und Manhattan Beach sind Teile davon.
