Columbĭa (District of C., abgekürzt D. C.), der sogen. Bundesdistrikt der Vereinigten Staaten von Nordamerika (s. Karte »Vereinigte Staaten«) mit der Bundeshauptstadt Washington, ein 180 qkm großes Gebiet auf der linken Seite des Potomac, 180 km oberhalb seiner Mündung in die Chesapeakebai, mit (1900) 278,718 Einw., darunter 20,119 im Ausland Geborne und 87,186 Farbige. Das Gebiet wird direkt vom Kongreß der Vereinigten Staaten durch drei »Commissioners« verwaltet. Die Schuld betrug 1890: 19,781,050 Doll. C. wurde 1788 von Maryland als Bundesgebiet abgetreten.
