Cheviots

Cheviots (spr. tschiwjöts, Cheviot Hills), ein Gebirgszug, der die Grenze zwischen England und Schottland bildet und bis 867 m Höhe erreicht. Den Kern des Gebirges bildet Porphyr (s. Tafel »Geologische Formationen II«, Fig. 4). Die höchsten Erhebungen sind mit Moor bedeckt, aber die Täler sind fruchtbar und reich an Weiden, und die Schafzucht blüht Zahlreiche Zuflüsse von Tyne, Tweed und Esk entspringen auf ihm.
