Censūra ecclesiastĭca (lat.), die kirchliche Strafgewalt, vermöge deren ein Bischof Vergehen gegen die Kirche untersuchen und, bis zu erfolgter Buße, bestrafen kann; die Strafe umfaßt Interdikt, Suspension und Exkommunikation. Censurae oder poenae medicinales heißen im Kirchenrechte die Straf- und Zuchtmittel, die zum Zweck der Besserung des Schuldigen ausgesprochen werden (s. Zensur).
