Burlington (spr. bör-), 1) Hauptstadt der Grafschaft Des Moines im nordamerikan. Staat Iowa, am Mississippi, Bahnknotenpunkt, mit baptistischer Universität, Handelsschule, Industrie und Handel und (1900) 23,201 Einw. – 2) Hauptort der Grafschaft Chittenden im nordamerikan. Staat Vermont, am Champlainsee und an der Central Vermont-Bahn, mit Staatsuniversität und Ackerbauschule, öffentlichen Bibliotheken, lebhafter Industrie, Seedampfschiffahrt, Handel und (1900) 18,640 Einw. – 3) Stadt in der gleichnamigen Grafschaft des nordamerikan. Staates New Jersey, am Delaware, 16 km oberhalb Philadelphia, mit dem es in Eisenbahn- und Dampferverbindung steht, hat ein episkopalisches College, höhere Mädchenschule, öffentliche Bibliothek, Schuhfabriken, lebhaften Handel und (1900) 7392 Einw. B. ward 1667 als New Beverley gegründet.
