Bottesĭni

Bottesĭni, Giovanni, Kontrabassist und Komponist, geb. 24. Dez. 1823 in Crema, gest. 7. Juli 1889 als Direktor des Konservatoriums in Parma, erhielt seine Ausbildung am Konservatorium zu Mailand, reiste 1840–46 als Kontrabaßvirtuos mit außerordentlichem Erfolg und wirkte dann als Theaterkapellmeister in Havana, Paris (italienische Oper, 1855), Palermo (1861), Barcelona (1863) und Kairo, begründete in Florenz die Società del quartetto zur Pflege deutscher Kammermusik. Wiederholt besuchte er noch in der Folge England, unter anderm 1887, wo sein Oratorium »Gethsemane« (»The garden of Olivet«) in Norwich ausgeführt wurde. Von 1847–1880 brachte er acht italienische Opern zur Ausführung, schrieb auch zwei Streichquartette und verfaßte eine Kontrabaßschule in zwei Teilen.
