Blarney

Blarney (spr. blārnĭ), oft genanntes Dorf bei Cork (Irland), mit altem Schloß (15. Jahrh.), in dessen Mauer an schwer zugänglicher Stelle ein Stein (der B. stone) sich befindet, der denjenigen, der ihn küßt, zum geschickten Schmeichler machen soll. Daher B. soviel wie eitler Wortschwall.
