Wycombe

Wycombe (spr. ūaiköm, früher Chipping-W., auch High-W.), Stadt (municipal borough) in Buckinghamshire (England), 19 km nordwestlich von Windsor, reizend am nördlichen Abhang der Chilternhügel gelegen, hat die schönste Kirche der Grafschaft (aus dem 13. Jahrh., 1874 restauriert), eine Lateinschule (1550), liefert Holzstühle und Papier und zählt (1901) 15,542 Einw. In der Nähe wurde 1823 eine römische Villa mit Mosaikboden entdeckt. 3 km nördlich davon liegt Hughenden (s. d.).
