Towianski, Andreas, poln. Mystiker, geb. 1. Jan. 1799 zu Antoszwiniec in Litauen, gest. 13. Mai 1878 in Zürich, war 1818–26 Advokat in Wilna, lernte 1835 in Paris den Saint-Simonismus kennen und eröffnete daselbst 27. Sept. 1841 seine mystischen Vorträge, deren Tendenz auf eine totale Umgestaltung des gesamten sozialen Zustandes der Menschheit durch beständige Begeisterung hinauslief. Für diese Ideen gewann er den Dichter Mickiewicz und andre Vertreter der polnischen Romantik. 1842 und 1848 aus Frankreich ausgewiesen, ging er über Rom nach der Schweiz. Gesammelte Schriften von ihm veröffentlichten Falkowski und Baykowski (ital., Turin 1882, 3 Bde.), seine Autobiographie gab Tancredi heraus (ital., Rom 1895; dann poln. u. ital., Turin 1897). Vgl.
