Sestīni

Sestīni, Domenico, Numismatiker, geb. 10. Aug. 1750 in Florenz, gest. daselbst 8. Juni 1832, bereiste einen großen Teil von Europa und den Orient, war 1810–14 Antiquar und Bibliothekar der Großherzogin von Toskana und später Professor in Pisa. Seine Bibliothek und Manuskripte (darunter das »Systema geographicum numismaticum« in 14 Bänden) ließ Leopold II. von Toskana ankaufen. Seine Hauptwerke sind: »Lettere e dissertazioni numismatiche« (Livorno, Rom, Berl. 1789–1806, 9 Bde.); »Classes generales seu monetae urbium populorum et regum ordine geographico« (Leipz. 1797, 2 Bde.; 2. Aufl., Flor. 1821); neue »Lettere e dissertazioni numismatiche« (Mail., Pisa, Flor. 1813 bis 1820, 9 Bde.) und die Beschreibung des Hederwarschen Museums (Flor. 1818–30, 7 Bde.).
