Ricotti, Ercole

Ricotti, Ercole, ital. Geschichtschreiber, geb. 12. Okt. 1816 in Voghera, gest. 24. Febr. 1883, studierte zuerst die mathematisch-technischen Wissenschaften, dann Geschichte in Turin, ward wegen seines Werkes »Storia delle compagnie di ventura in Italia« (Turin 1844–45, 4 Bde.; 1893, 2 Bde.) 1846 Professor der Geschichte zu Turin und nahm als Kapitän im Geniekorps am Feldzug gegen Österreich 1848 teil, während dessen er in österreichische Gefangenschaft fiel. Seit 1848 war er Mitglied der sardinischen Deputiertenkammer, seit 1862 des italienischen Senats. 1878 wurde er zum Präsidenten der Akademie der Wissenschaften in Turin ernannt; 1880 gab er seine Vorlesungen an der Universität auf. Von seinen Werken sind noch zu erwähnen: »Sopra la storia d'Italia dal basso impero ai comuni« (Tur. 1848); »Della vita e degli scritti del conte Cesare Balbo« (Flor. 1856); »Storia della monarchia piemontese« (das. 1861–1869, 6 Bde.); »Della rivoluzione protestante« (Turin 1874); »Ricordi di mia vita« (hrsg. von Manno, das. 1886).
