Protargŏl, eine Verbindung eines Silbersalzes mit einem Proteinkörper, bildet ein hellgelbes, seines, im Wasser leicht lösliches Pulver, das gegen akuten Tripper der Männer und Frauen (namentlich auch als Vorbeugungsmittel), auch gegen Augengonorrhöe der Neugebornen, Bindehautentzündung und Trachom, chronischem Rachen- und Nasenkatarrh, Ekzeme, Brandwunden etc. als Einpinselung, Einspritzung, auch in Form von Bougies angewandt wird.
