Baharieh

Baharieh (Bacharieh, Uah el Bahrijeh), Oase im westlichen Teil Unterägyptens, 100–113 m ü. M. in der libyschen Wüstenplatte, in welcher der Chargeh, Dachel und Farafrah einschließende ägyptische Oasenzug verläuft. Ihre Bewohnbarkeit verdankt die Oase zahlreichen, z. T. warmen (34°) Quellen, die den von schroffen Felsenklippen eingefaßten sandigen Kessel bewässern. Die etwa 5000 Seelen starke Bevölkerung in den fünf Orten Sabu, Mendieh, El Adschus, Bauiti und El Kasr baut Reis, Weizen, Gerste, Durra, Baumwolle, vornehmlich aber Datteln. Von altägyptischen und römischen Bauten sind einige Reste vorhanden. Die Oase wurde 1873–76 von Rohlfs, Schweinfurth und Ascherson besucht.
