Bareilly (Bareli), Distrikt der Division Rohilkand in den britisch-ind. Nordwestprovinzen, zwischen 28°3´-28°54´ nördl. Br. und 79°3´-79°50´ östl. L., 4180 qkm groß. Das ebene Land wird von der Ramganga und andern Flüssen durchzogen und befruchtet. Die Bewohner (1891: 1,040,691, darunter 789,603 Hindu,245,039 Mohammedaner, 2393 Christen) treiben vornehmlich Ackerbau (Weizen, Zuckerrohr, Reis, Baumwolle). Den südwestlichen Teil durchzieht die Audh- und Rohilkandeisenbahn mit Abzweigungen nach Pilibhit und Naini Tal. Die Hauptstadt B., an der Ramganga, Bahnknotenpunkt, hat ein starkes Fort neuer Bauart, einen Palast des Nawab von Rampur, zahlreiche Moscheen und Hindutempel, eine Kirche, 2 Gefängnisse, Irrenanstalt, ein College und einschließlich der Garnison (1901) 117,433 Einw.
